The Angels are powerful entities of Heaven, born from the light of God and Goddess at the dawn of creation before the firm forming of the universe. They are responsible for maintaining Heaven and for guarding the souls of righteous humans as well as occasionally patrolling the borders of Limbo to ensure souls do not roam free. The majority of Angels reside in Heaven; however, there are a few angels who prefer to live on Earth amongst the creations of the almighty, and Fallen Angels reside in the kingdom of Hell.
They are autonomous, divine beings and do not live in strict harmony with each other. Throughout the ages, they have had rivalries and disputes between their ranks, and during Lucifer's rebellion, they even waged war that had consumed the Silver City prior to the Golden Angels banishment. In general, they are benevolent spirits that live in Heaven and are bound by the will of God to uphold "The Ineffable Plan". They also serve as God's messengers and soldiers against the demons of Hell and other enemies.
Overview[]
Physical Appearance[]
Angels appear indistinguishable from humanity, albeit with a pair of large feathery wings on their back. These wings are what give them the power to travel between Heaven, Earth, and Hell among other dimensions where they be permitted - Notable examples include the Dreaming. They can retract their wings into their back and unfurl them at will: Most commonly on Earth as to keep the knowledge of divinity from society.
Since angels, like everyone, self actualize from the collective unconscious, albeit differently from mortals, anything they perceive about themselves affect their physical body, the appearance of an angel's wings is suited to them personally from their mental state. Lucifer's enormous wings were shown to be a brilliant white and to glow with a divine light, fitting as the "Lightbringer." However, untold billions of years after his fall, he began to perceive himself more and more as a monster and thus his wings took a demonic bat form with a razor-sharp tip and a massive monstrous size.
Enochian[]
Prayer[]
The phrase, "Aham asman matey-bee ta-teyva", is a sacred invocation in Sanskrit born of Enochian root words denoting a traditional relation. It is commonly used by the Angels of Heaven to communicate with the Metatron, either using a circle of salt or sand. The King of Hell, Lucifer, has also been observed using this prayer-incantation while on Earth or to arbiter matters of celestial discord as Metatron is the Judge of the Afterlife, the Voice of God, and brother-aspect to the Spectre: the Spirit of Vengeance and the Wrath of God respectively.
- Aham (अहम्): "I" or "self."
- Asman (अस्मान्): "Heaven," "sky," or "divine essence."
- Matey-bee (मातृभिः): Loosely interpreted as "rebirth" or "born anew" (from the root "mātṛ," meaning "mother" or "origin").
- Ta-teyva (तत् एव): "That indeed" or "only that," denoting certainty or singularity.
Combined, the most literal translation is: "I am from the heavens, born anew; that alone is truth." Suggesting that only divine entities of origin could call upon Metatron being "from the heavens" as the ultimate truth. This theory was later proven true as attempts by non-angelic individuals to summon Metatron resulted in the unintended summoning of two Warriors Angels instead with the mission to vanquish whomever had lied during the recitation, solidifying its role as a safeguard and a test of divine integrity to the absolute truth with any misuse not only an offense against the Order of Heaven but a direct challenge to the nigh-omnipotent authority of Metatron.
Powers and Abilities[]
Angels are one of the most powerful species to ever exist, outclassing most demons, monsters, ghosts, and other supernatural creatures with few and rare exceptions. As warriors of God and agents of Fate, they share a common powerset, varying based on status, title, and position in rank possessing a wide range of abilities. The higher the angel, the more powerful they are, with the strongest among them being Archangels and Seraphim.
Each angel also possesses a special title that is unique to that angel and to their offspring relevant to their existential core and influences their domain: Lucifer is the "Lightbringer", Azrael is the "Angel of Death", Amenadiel is the Right Hand of the Presence thus "So be it says God", Gabriel is the "Messenger of God" and Herald of Visions, Raphael is the "Angel of Healing", et cetera.
Each title confers a certain level of power and equipment: Lucifer, as the Lightbringer, had the element of fire: in the beginning, he was God's lamplighter -- setting stars aflame and celestial bodies as much as he ignites the human spirit in present day, for good or ill. He could even ignite the Flaming Sword, that was his signature weapon, and was functionally an engineer for creation -- spinning the wheel, spitting out nebulae -- as the patron to Dominion Angels.
Does an Angel have a Soul?[]
Angels are a separate and distinct order of being from humans, they are souls made flesh. Spiritual entities manifesting physical form with the ability to interact in the material world and in the inmaterial. Angels, while immortal, are not invincible. They can feel pain, experience suffering, and even fall from grace. They can rebel and they can experience intense movements in their will that are similar to human emotions. Their existence is a paradox: they are beings of pure spirit, yet bound to the constraints and vulnerabilities of their physical forms. They possess no afterlife. For an angel, destruction of their form means an absolute end where in their essence dissolves into the fabric of creation.
The Process of Death[]
The process of death operates as a finely tuned machine, a coalition of gods, personifications, and agents working together to maintain the Natural Order and interdimensional stability. At its helm is Death of the Endless, the universal embodiment of death, transcending all pantheons, realms, and dimensions. She oversees the metaphysical concept of death for all living things, ensuring the balance of life and decay. Death serves as an impartial force, resolving disputes among the deities and personifications under her authority, she oversees the court, ensuring fairness and balance and acts as the final tie-breaker in disputes without consensus.
During apocalyptic events (e.g., a Crisis-level event), Death of the Endless activates an emergency protocol by commanding all banshees (her personal omen) to scream at once so that in these reality-threatening events, Azrael and all death representatives are summoned to coordinate efforts, ensuring souls are not lost, to manage the immense influx of souls and prevent afterlife decay.
When a living being dies, their soul transitions through multiple stages: At the moment prior to passing, Azrael appears to observe their final moments and dictate them. With the last breath, they depart, marking the chapter's close. Death of the Endless then appears to the newly formed ghost, who guides them into the afterlife with a caring smile and sympathetic hand to ease the transition. Prior to Death's arrival, Angels may forcibly awaken the corpse to briefly discuss matters with them, provided they hadn't crossed the threshold yet. However, they risk evoking Death's retribution for meddling in their domain.
Beyond the threshold lies Limbo, the first realm of the afterlife, also known as: The Realm Between and The Spectral Plane. Here, souls lie in wait to be ferried along the rivers Acheron and Styx by the Ferryman who is responsible for the care of the dead. Unlike traditional mythology where the Ferryman is Charon, his identity is known as Thanatos or Anubis depending on belief. He is a relative to the Endless and myth explains that he was a psychopomp who carries souls across the River Styx, granted you first pay his bounty. Payment could mean fulfilling one's mortal purpose or offering a token as sacrifice. Overpopulation in Limbo, caused by unresolved fate, has strained this system.
Passage by the Ferryman has the "Weighing of the Heart" ceremony, where a deceased soul’s heart is balanced against the feather of Ma’at (representing truth and justice). The feather, plucked from an angel’s wing, determines virtue. A heavy heart, burdened by guilt, condemns the soul to Hell. However, a soul may appeal the verdict, prompting a trial by jury that the Ferryman summons forth on land. Contrary to popular belief, Lucifer has no power over where a soul ends up, not even Heaven can spare someone beyond a second chance.
- King Minos serves on conflicted cases, where a person lived a righteous life but feels guilt or was corrupt by motivation seeking moral desert, or where a person committed atrocity yet feel no guilt and thus wouldn't be weighed down by the feather.
- Hekate - The Three in One. They appear as Clotho, Atropos, and Lachesis. Arbiters of Mortal Destiny. They may influence judgments by revealing the soul’s destiny and whether it fulfilled its purpose and deserve a second chance. They resurrected Caeneus who had not served his prophecy yet and were sought by Morpheus and Calliope to resurrect their son Orpheus but were denied.
- The Court of the Dead - Osiris, King Hades, King Rhadamanthus, and Judas - The Phantom Stranger. They handle exceptional cases, such as souls that have transcended traditional afterlife systems or pose a threat to the balance of life and death. Each representing a different voice of reason while The Phantom Stranger can choose to advocate the case of the deceased.
Hierarchy[]
- The Sovereign of Heaven. Held by God: The Presence: The Creator.
First-Order Archangels[]
Supreme Archangels are the firstborn children of God and the Mother Entity. There are 4 Supreme Archangels. Michael, Lucifer, Gabriel, and Amenadiel. Though, Lucifer is Fallen. They each represent an aspect of God: Lucifer is God's pride, Michael represents the strength of God’s will and the uncompromising nature of justice, Amenadiel is God's compassion for which his love is channeled through, and Gabriel is God's creativity. Michael and Lucifer being the most powerful among the four, with Amenadiel a close enough third to be considered equal.
Personifications of God[]
Spirits of God are aspects of the Presence, The Creator. There are five known spirits including Radiant (mercy), The Spectre (vengeance), Metatron (Voice of God and Chancellor of Heaven), Jesus of Nazareth (forgiveness), and Genesis (The Word of God).
First Sphere[]
Archangels[]
Other Archangels are known in Heaven as absolute, precise and wrathful creatures: "The most fearsome weapon of Heaven". There are seven archangels to compliment the original four Archangels, for a total of eleven. Zadkiel (as the angel of righteousness) is God's redemption, Raphael is the Angel of Healing, Azrael: The Angel of Death, Remiel: The Thunder of God, Uriel representing God's patience, Raziel: The Angel of Wisdom, and Jophiel: The Angel of Beauty and the Joybringer. Their authority is overridden by First-Order Archangels who they look up to in awe despite some animosity.
Seraphim[]
Also known as Akyəst, Seraphim maintain the highest rank of traditional angels to exist. Despite the fact, they are a distinct spiritual creature but on equal footing and hierarchy. They are attendants to the divine continuum and exist as a multidimensional wavelength of celestial intent, featuring heavy in The Old Testament, they also act as representatives of divine judgment. They are perfect and cold, bred solely for obedience to the sovereign of Heaven.
Their true spiritual forms prove overwhelming to most mortals; however, some 'special' people can see them without suffering lasting effects; demons also can't look at them in their true form without damaging their vessels. To do so, burns the body out from the inside. Seraphs are, to date, the only class of angels that are emotionless, not permitted to have feelings or free will. Loyal to a fault and fearsome warriors of blazing fire, fully committed to fulfill their task no matter the cost.
From the ranks of Seraphim, the Almighty created the Pax Dei to maintain the peace of God - hence its name. To exist on Earth, they must possess the bodies of humans, requiring consent, seemingly killing off the human hosts’ souls in the process.
Heavenly Virtues[]
The virtues represent the seven virtues of humanity: Chastity, Temperance, Charity, Diligence, Patience, Kindness, and Humility.
Responsible for supervising the movements of the heavenly bodies in order to ensure that the cosmos remains in order, they are also responsible for ensuring Heaven remains in balance. Residing in a chamber of astrological bodies, they deliberate and reflect upon God's Will.
Saraqael is the Virtue of Diligence, Alathiel is the Virtue of Temperance, and Ithuriel is the Virtue of Chastity. The seven virtues are often regarded as equal in status to Hell's Princes.
Second Sphere[]
Dominion[]
Dominion angels are mentioned in the Bible in Colossians 1:16, and are also described in the Second Book of Enoch. Dominions are the "engineers", responsible for Heaven's systems, entitled with near-unlimited access. They are able to poke the fabric of the universe to perform a kind of diagnosis and are imbued with demiurgic power AKA miracles so vast they could create pocket dimensions, affect the flow of time, and act as architects to design personal Heavens.
Throne[]
Thrones refer to a class of intelligence angels who replaced the Grigori. Their work is to gather information and maintain order in Heaven to prevent another rebellion. Thrones have a regular security briefing and they possess classified files on each supernatural being, monitored as threats or assets. They are often referred to as the "Ones with Many Eyes", in respect to their surveillance.
Rit Zien[]
On the battlefields of Heaven, the Rit Zien are a special class of angel: Enochian for "hands of mercy." They functioned like medics, tended to the wounded, they healed those who could be healed. But for the mortally wounded, those who were past saving, the Rit Zien's job was to execute them in mercy. They are ruled by Raphael - the Archangel of Healing, and wield vast empathic and smiting ability. The Rit Zien are among the most dangerous of angels, feared even among the celestials, as they could kill other angels.
Third Sphere[]
Principalities[]
Principalities are the stereotypical 'Guardian Angels', they protect a country, city or at least a very large area. The Angel of the Eastern Gate protected the Garden of Eden and was of this order. Prophets of the lord also have a Guardian Angel assigned to them, authorised to take action the moment the Prophet's life is in danger or under threat by any means deemed needed. Even overloading a Halo and subsequently declaring War on Hell, even briefly, is deemed within acceptable bounds and appropriate response if a Prophet is under siege from Demons.
They are organized within garrisons and are stationed to protect and watch over the Earth. Principalities are also responsible for bequeathing blessings.
Cherubim[]
What human myth have mistaken for "cupid," is actually a lower order of angel. Residing on the third-class, Cherubim are tasked with pairing important bloodlines together to ensure the correct offspring is born of the right unions. Scattered all across the Earth, they are the most common type of angel observed to interfere in mortal affairs. They can manipulate the fosterence of love, and are often docilistic and pacifistic.
Despite being low on the list, Cherubs are considerably powerful, and often worshipped as Erotes - Gods of Love. Jophiel, the Second-Class Archangel of Beauty, lead the Cherubim and decide which bloodlines to breed.
Zabaniyah[]
Zabaniyah, also known as Zebani, are nineteen angels that serve as wardens in Hell. More information is currently unknown.
Grigori[]
According to the Book of Enoch, the angels of the Lord who were called Watchers AKA Grigori descended to Earth upon a village at the base of the Caucasus Mountains, sometime around 3000 B.C after they turned away from Heaven. The Watchers were to take wives of human women due to a strong desire for their beauty. In their lust and subsequent procreation, the Watchers had half-mortal sons called "The Nephilim". This eventually led to the destruction of the first world through the flood of Noah. Grigori are currently extinct, having been wiped out by the Archangel Michael.
Summoning[]
It is considered unwise to attempt to summon an angel for several reasons. First, it is considered futile and a waste of time, since angels do not respond to summons in the same way that demons do. Additionally, the summoning rituals that claim to bring angels are obscure, difficult, and unreliable; they have been accomplished so rarely that there is not much evidence for what does and does not work. Furthermore, Angels are not merely messengers or guardians, they are the soldiers of God's army and emissaries of his wrath and vengeance, to summon them is to summon a warrior that cannot easily be killed and can easily be insulted and thus incur god's wrath. There is currently no known way to oblige an angel to cooperate with the desires or needs of the summoner.

Trivia[]
- Virtuous souls can ascend to a quasi-angelic position where their souls are given form comparable to an angel.
- Adam, The First Man, ascended into a leadership position over lower-ranking angelic foot soldiers.
- Eve, The 'First' Woman, was granted a maternal position greeting new souls entering Heaven and listening to their life stories at the pearly gates after complaining to the archangel Jophiel that she was unhappy. She subsequently ascended into a celestial being, able to revive herself despite countless millennia passing since her death, upon hearing Charlotte Richard's story.
